Organizations

An organization can contain multiple projects (previously referred to as groups). Under this hierarchy structure:

  • Billing happens at the organization level while preserving visibility into usage in each project.
  • You can view all projects within an organization.
  • You can use teams to bulk assign organization users to projects within the organization.

Create an Organization

When you create an organization, you are added as an Organization Owner for the organization.

Go to your user settings.

In the upper-right hand corner, click on your user name.

Click Organizations.

Click New Organization.

Enter the name for your organization.

Select Atlas and click Next.

You have the option of adding a new Cloud Manager organization or a new Atlas organization. For more information on Cloud Manager see https://www.mongodb.com/cloud/cloud-manager.

Add members.

  1. For existing Atlas users, enter their username. Usually, this is the email the person used to register.
  2. For new Atlas users, enter their email address to send an invitation.

Specify the access for the members.

Click Create Organization.

Leave an Organization

Important

To leave an organization, at least another user must exist as an Owner for the organization.

Go to your user settings.

In the upper-right hand corner, click on your user name.

Click Organizations.

Leave organization.

For the organization you wish to leave, click its Leave button to bring up the Leave Organization dialog.

Click Leave Organization in the Leave Organization dialog.

Rename an Organization

You must have the Organization Owner role for an organization to rename it.

In the Context dropdown, select the organization to rename.

Click Settings.

Click pencil icon next to the organization name.

Enter the new name for the organization.

Click Save.

Change Organization Settings

Important

You must have the Organization Owner role for an organization to configure the organization settings described in this section.

Require Two-Factor Authentication

An Atlas Organization Owner can require that all Atlas users within their organization enable 2FA for their Atlas accounts.

Note

You must enable 2FA on your own Atlas account before you can enable this setting for your organization. For instructions on enabling 2FA on your Atlas account, see Two-Factor Authentication.

Procedure

In the Context dropdown, select the organization which should require 2FA.

Click Settings.

Set the Require Two-Factor Authentication toggle to the desired setting.

Require IP Whitelist for Public API

You can configure Atlas to require API whitelisting at the organization level. When this setting is enabled, all API calls within that organization must originate from an entry on each respective Atlas user’s API whitelist. For more information on Atlas API Access, see Configure Atlas API Access.

Procedure

In the Context dropdown, select the organization which should require an IP whitelist for Public API access.

Click Settings.

Set the Require IP Whitelist for Public API toggle to the desired setting.

Configure Slack Workspaces

Authorize a Slack Workspace to Receive Organization Alerts

In the Context dropdown, select the organization to receive Slack alerts.

Click Settings.

Click Add to Slack.

Sign in to your Workspace.
  1. Type your workspace name into the field.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Select your authentication method.
  4. Click Authorize.

Click Save.

Important

Only one Slack Workspace can be authorized for each Organization.

Select Organization to Remove Slack Authorization

Select the organization from which you want to remove Slack authorization.

In the Context dropdown, select the organization to stop receiving Slack alerts.

Click Settings.

Click Clear Slack Token.

Important

This does not stop Atlas from sending alerts. To stop Atlas from sending alerts to Slack, you must delete the Slack alert setting.

Delete an Organization

Important

To delete an organization, you must have Organization Owner role for the organization.

You cannot delete an organization that has active projects. You must delete the organization’s projects before you can delete the organization.

In the Context dropdown, select the organization to delete.

Click Settings.

In the General Settings tab, click Delete.

This displays the Delete Organization dialog.

Click Delete Organization to confirm.
